That was the result of the draw on Sunday evening.
The Brit Edmund, once number 14 in the world, was out injured for a long time and is currently fighting for his comeback. He is still without a win on the ATP tour this year.
In a direct comparison, Dominic Thiem leads 1-0, the two played against each other in Barcelona in 2017. Thiem won 6: 1, 6: 4.
Thiem was last at the start in Munich, where he reached the quarter-finals, where he lost to Taylor Fritz.
Thiem against Tsitsipas in round 2?
The winner of the game meets Stefanos Tsitsipas: The Greek, currently a finalist in Barcelona, is seeded 4th and has a bye in round 1.
Alexander Zverev also has a bye. He is number 13 in Madrid and is waiting for the winner of the game between Roberto Carballes Baena and David Goffin. Then there could be a match against Sebastian Korda.

Next in the tableau from a German point of view: Oscar Otte, who can compete with Italy's old master Fabio Fognini. From a Swiss point of view: Stan Wawrinka (against Maxime Cressy) and Marc-Andrea Huesler (against Cristian Garin).
Qualifying draw with Rodionov, Ofner, Misolic - Struff top seed
Jan-Lennard Struff is top seeded in the qualifying field, he plays against Luca Nardi. Daniel Altmaier (against Attila Balazs) is also there, and the German-German duel between Yannick Hanfmann and Maximilian Marterer is also increasing.
