Carlos Alcaraz entered the final of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament with a brilliant performance. A day after his epic success against Rafael Nadal, Alcaraz also defeated world number one Novak Djokovic 6: 7 (5), 7: 5 and 7: 6 (5). Alcaraz meets either Stefanos Tsitsipas or defending champion Alexander Zverev in the final on Sunday.

So Alcaraz quickly led 2-0, Djokovic fought back and remained untouchable until 6-6 on his own serve. Alcaraz initially made a few mistakes in the tie-break, but the teenager fought his way back to 5: 6. Alcaraz slipped on the fourth set ball for Djokovic - and still had a chance to fend it off as well.

Alcaraz in a sensational way to equalize the set

In round two, Alcaraz earned the first breakball in the sixth game, Djokovic defended with a good serve. As against Rafael Nadal on Friday, Alcaraz showed soulful stop balls en masse, most of which remained unattainable for Djokovic. When the score was 4: 4, there was the first break opportunity for the Belgrade - this time Alcaraz parried with a good service. At 5: 5 and a debut, however, a stop from Alcaraz ended up in the net. But Djokovic also missed this chance. A few moments later it was suddenly 0:40 when Djokovic served. And Carlos Alcaraz used the second set ball in a sensational way.

In the decision, the youngster got off to a better start, but Alcaraz didn't know how to use the three break chances when the score was 2-1. A few moments later the same pattern: Djokovic was 15:40 behind on his own service - and still equalized to 3: 3. Alcaraz faltered in his next service game but didn't fall. At the change of sides after Alcaraz's 5: 4, the wave went through the stands in the Caja Magica. After a playing time of 3:12 hours, Alcaraz hammered a forehand into the field for the first match point. Djokovic responded with an ace.

As this match deserved, it had to be decided in a tie-break in the third set. Alcaraz managed an early mini-break, Djokovic came up to 2: 3, the local hero immediately followed up. When the score was 5: 3, Djokovic put a return at Alcaraz's feet, the next mini re-break. After 3:35 hours of play, Djokovic fended off Alcaraz's second match point. The third sat.
