Andrey Rublev had a tough fight against Tommy Paul

Andrey Rublev had not shown his best tennis in Barcelona and at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Madrid this trend should continue, at least in its opening game. The 23-year-old had against the world number 58. Tommy Paul struggled hard before the 6: 7 (5), 6: 3 and 6: 4 success was certain.

Denis Shapovalov experienced an equally tough fight - albeit without a happy ending. The Canadian, who was in eleventh place, had to admit defeat to Kazakh Alexander Bublik in a heated duel in stage 3 with 4: 6, 7: 5 and 4: 6. The 22-year-old then spoke of mental problems that are currently hindering him.

It is well known that Fabio Fognini's head is in the way from time to time. In the second round of the third ATP Masters 1000 event of the year, it was rather the impressive blows of his compatriot Matteo Berrettini as his own mental inadequacies that caused the clear 3-6 and 4-6 defeat.
