Andrey Rublev just defeated Novak Djokovic in the final of the ATP Tour 250 tournament in Belgrade - and then the Russian almost flies out of the tableau in his first appearance at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Madrid. Because Jack Draper, a highly talented Briton, already led in the third set against Rublev with a break. And finally had to admit defeat with 6:2, 4:6 and 5:7. In round one, Draper had easily defeated Lorenzo Sonego in straight sets.
Rublev has landed on Stefanos Tsitsipas' quarter-final leg in Madrid, but before that he has yet to beat either Daniel Evans or the winner of the Jenson Brooksby-Roberto Bautista-Agut match.
In the early games on Wednesday, Alexander Zverev's first opponent was also determined. The defending champions start in Madrid against Marin Cilic, who defeated Albert Ramos-Vinolas 6-3, 3-6 and 6-4.
