Jannik Sinner is in the second round in Madrid

Jannik Sinner's first appearance at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Madrid lasted exactly 64 minutes before Guido Pella had to give up at 6: 2 and 4: 4 for the 19-year-old due to an adductor injury. Up to this point the youngster, who meets Jan-Lennard Struff or Alexei Popyrin in the second round, had made an excellent impression.

No less impressive was Casper Ruud's advance into the second round of the clay court tournament. The Norwegian defeated Felix Auger-Aliassime 6: 1 and 6: 4 and did not allow a single break ball in the entire encounter. He now has to deal with Yoshihito Nishioka or Filip Krajinovic.

A Japanese, however, is already in the next round: Kei Nishikroi prevailed in a highly anticipated first round duel against Karen Khachanov with 6: 7 (6), 6: 2 and 6: 3. The next task will be easier for the world number 43. but not, the former Madrid champion Alexander Zverev is now waiting for him.

There was a surprise on Court 5: Miami winner Hubert Hurkacz missed two match points against John Millman and had to admit defeat to the Australian 7: 5, 6: 7 (7) and 3: 6.
