Stan Wawrinka is in round two after a big fight

Stan Wawrinka had to work an extra shift on Wednesday. The Swiss veteran had to struggle against the serve-and-volley specialist Maxime Cressy, but ultimately got the upper hand in three sets.

The Swiss had to give up section one 6:7 (3), but then fought back strongly. After a 6:3 in the second round, a tie-break again had to bring the decision in the deciding set. In this Cressy started a little better, but then Wawrinka turned it up and finally bought his ticket for the round of the last 64 with 6:7 (3), 6:3 and 7:6 (4). Grand Slam winner against fifth seeded Andrey Rublev.

Otte on, Schwartzman out

Also in round two is Oscar Otte from Germany. The world number 98. had to stretch against Pavel Kotov, but reached the second round with a 6:3, 4:6 and 6:4. In this it goes for Otte against the local hero Pablo Carreno Busta.

Somewhat surprisingly, Diego Schwartzman, who can look back on a more than mixed year in 2023, had to admit defeat at the start. The Argentinian lost out to Frenchman Hugo Grenier after two hours.
