Not a good start for the German men at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Miami: Dominik Koepfer seemed to be on the road to victory against Mackenzie McDonald, led after an early break in the third set - and still had to 7: 6 in the end (8), 4:6 and 4:6 defeated. The fact that Koepfer needed six match points in the first set to remain successful in the tie-break shows just how hard-fought this game was.
This means that one in five Germans failed on Wednesday. Oscar Otte still has a chance to do better later in the day. Otte meets the American qualifier Mitchell Krueger. Only tomorrow will Jan-Lennard Struff intervene against Pedro Martinez and Daniel Altmaier against John Jeffrey Wolff.
Alexander Zverev, number two in the tournament, set a bye at the beginning. Zverev starts against either Fernando Verdasco or Borna Coric.
