Alexander Zverev would have had what it takes on Friday to play the party crasher after all. Zverev's partner Marcelo Melo will also have understood with understanding that the German number one after his marathon victory against Jannik Sinner in the singles quarterfinals did not also compete in doubles. And so today eight men are fighting for the final places in Monte-Carlo, who work full-time exclusively in doubles. Which is not a matter of course in 2022.

Because the three biggest titles of the season were won by the individual cracks: At the Australian Open it was Thanasi Kokkinakis andNick Kyrgios , in Indian Wells John Isner and Jack Sock and in Miami Isner again, but then with Hubert Hurkacz. With the exception of Hurkacz, however, none of the above was at the start in Monte Carlo. And Stefanos Tsitsipas , who won the tournament alongside Feliciano Lopez in Acapulco, tried his hand at brother Petros again this time. But more than the entry in round two was not possible.

Mektic and Pavic out again

So far, however, the tournament favorites Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury have been sovereign, who were able to assert themselves against Michael Venus and Tim Pütz on Friday. Ram/Salisbury meet Rohan Bopanna and Jamie Murray in today's semifinals. Marcelo Arevalo and Jean-Julien Rojer were the beneficiaries of Melo/Zverev's withdrawal yesterday. They play against Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah.

The two Colombians extended the miserable phase of the duo Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic, who outshone everything a year ago, with a straightforward 6: 4 and 6: 4. The most convincing all-doubles pair this year, Wesley Koolhof and Neal Skupski, had already failed at the start against Bopanna/Murray.
