ATP Masters Monte Carlo: Grigor Dimitrov surprises Casper Ruud, also Taylor Fritz in the quarterfinals
Grigor Dimitrov pulled off a surprise in the round of 16 of the ATP Masters 1000 event in Monte Carlo. The Bulgarian defeated Casper Ruud in straight sets. At the same time, Taylor Fritz also bought his ticket for the round of eight. The American defeated Sebastian Korda 7:6 (4) and 6:4.

At the start of a packed round of 16 at the ATP Masters 1000 event, clay court specialist Casper Ruud and Grigor Dimitrov got together on Court Rainier III. The Bulgarian got off to a brilliant start, the former world number three quickly pulled away with a break and after a little over half an hour won a surprisingly one-sided set 6:3.
Set two should be far more balanced. Both players didn't really have much to report as setbacks before Grigor Dimitrov prepared to end the match with a break at a score of 6:5. The Bulgarian found three break and match balls out of nowhere. The former world number three should finally know how to transform the third. With 6: 3 and 7: 5, Dimitrov booked his ticket for the round of eight.
Fritz beats Korda
At the Court des Princes, meanwhile, Taylor Fritz was able to win in an all-American duel with Sebastian Korda. The world number 13. secured a hard-fought first round with 7: 4 in the tie-break, in set two the Indian Wells champion managed the first break of the game to 4: 3. Korda, on the other hand, who surprisingly defeated Carlos Alcaraz in the round of 32, managed the rebreak immediately.

Taylor Fritz should continue to set the tone in this match. The logical consequence: The American got another break to make it 6:5, which Fritz was now able to safely transport to a 7:6 (4) and 7:5 match win. In the quarterfinals, the 24-year-old is now waiting for the winner of the duel between Novak Djokovic conqueror Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and David Goffin.
