Dominic Thiem is on round two in Monte Carlo

Dominic Thiem took the positive feelings after the two individual victories at Estoril's ATP 250 event with him to Monte Carlo. Instead of the Austrian's now almost obligatory false start - Thiem has recently had problems acting at the highest level right from the start - the 29-year-old started wide awake in his opening duel with Richard Gasquet from France. It was also Thiem's first duel with neo-trainer Benjamin Ebrahimzadeh in the box, the Lower Austrian is known to have separated from long-term supervisor Nicolas Massu on the Easter weekend.

In the duel between the two backhand artists, it was Thiem who was supposed to break the first break in Gasquet's first service game. The Austrian was always a bit stronger in the tight moments at the beginning, a quick 4-0 was the logical consequence. Gasquet, who kept struggling with Thiem's powerful game, should never recover from this. With 6: 1, the former world ranking third section got one.

Thiem with a strong performance

Gasquet was initially able to prevent the break in the second round, but Thiem struck in the second service game of this match - including a wonderfully performed net advance and a wonderful forehand pass. And because Dominic Thiem didn't even think about shifting down a gear, Gasquet couldn't find a way back into this match as a result.

Dominic Thiem was particularly impeccable on his own serve: The Austrian was able to solve the few tight moments with his strong service, and the 29-year-old showed the entire match with a powerful performance from the baseline. Gasquet was only left to play the counterattack. And there was nothing to be gotten from against Thiem that Monday evening in Monte Carlo. In the end, the former world number three won his ticket for the second round with 6: 1 and 6: 4.

In the round of the last 32, Thiem with Holger Rune is now up against a seeded player. The young Dane is the current number eight in the tennis world, while Thiem can only be found in 111th place. But Holger Rune also had to contend with a bumpy start to the season. Thiem, on the other hand, presented himself in an excellent mood to play at the first appearance in Monte Carlo. And Benjamin Ebrahimzadeh's debut was also a success.
