ATP Masters Montreal: Nick Kyrios turns match against Daniil Medvedev

At the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Montreal, there was an absolute treat in the second round: the newly crowned Los Cabos champion Daniil Medvedev got it with Nick Kyrgios , who in turn competed in Washington the previous week both in singles and in the double had triumphed to do.

The two protagonists proved their top form early on on Court Central and showed impressive tennis. Kyrgios missed two set balls when the score was 4: 5 and Medvedev's serve, a little later a tie-break had to make the decision. In this, the world number one from Moscow quickly pulled away and then bagged round one with 7:6 (2).

Kyrgios strikes back impressively

Kyrgios immediately hit back at the beginning of the second set and took the serve from Medvedev to make it 1-0. The Wimbledon finalist knew how to transport this break to equalize sentences without any major problems.

At the beginning of the decisive set, Kyrgios seemed to be dealing with slight physical problems, but the 27-year-old from Canberra managed the first break. Two games later, the world number 37. to 5: 2, after almost two hours of play he then used his first match point to 6: 7 (2), 6: 4 and 6: 2 success.

The two top seeded players said goodbye in Montreal on Wednesday. Carlos Alcaraz had already lost before Medvedev . For Kyrgios, however, the journey in the Canadian metropolis continues: he meets Alex de Minaur or Grigor Dimitrov in the round of 16.
