Alexander Zverev gets the chance to revenge in Montreal

Zverev and Norrie had last met in the semi-finals of Acapulco, even then the German had prevailed. This time Zverev needed exactly 100 minutes of play for the 7: 6 (4) and 6: 4. Although the Hamburg native made five double mistakes, he also served ten aces. Ultimately, a single break in the second set decided the outcome of the game. Zverev was able to ward off all six opponents' chances of break, Norrie only five from six.

In the round of 16 Alexander Zverev now has the opportunity to take revenge: the opponent will be Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili, who was able to assert himself against Jan-Lennard Struff with 2: 6, 6: 2 and 6: 3. Zverev had given a sure victory against Basilashvili in the last semifinal of Hamburg.

Zverev happy with the start

"It was fun getting back on this court," said Zverev after his win. "I hope I can still play a lot of matches here this week. We'll see how it goes, but I'm happy with the start."

Peter Gojowczyk also presented himself strongly. The Dachauer won the first set against the number 11 of the tournament, Borna Coric, but ultimately had to surrender 6: 2, 1: 6 and 6: 7 (2).
