Setback for Jannik Sinner shortly before the goal of the ATP Finals in Turin: After his opening defeat against Carlos Alacaraz, the 20-year-old South Tyrolean is only a co-driver when it comes to the allocation of places for Turin. Because his direct competitor Hubert Hurkacz overtook the South Tyrolean with his win against Tommy Paul and is on the last fixed starting position in the Race to Turin. Sinner could still score points in Stockholm next week.

Cameron Norrie is also still in the race. The Brit, who recently won in Indian Wells, won against Reilly Opelka in straight sets and will play against Taylor Fritz in the round of 16 on Thursday. After Sinner's defeat, it now looks good for Casper Ruud. Because he has a 200 point lead over Norrie in the Live Race. Ruud plays in Paris-Bercy either against Diego Schwartzman or Marcos Giron.

Stefanos Tsitsipas had a brief appearance. The Greek had to give up against Lucky Loser Alexei Popyrin when the score was 2: 4 in the first set. It is not yet possible to say whether Tsitsipa's withdrawal will have implications for the season finale in Turin.
