Milos Raonic is an opponent whose playing field Dominic Thiem is basically rather less. The strong serve, however, also causes problems for many other opponents. And so it was only fair that Thiem reached a 7: 6 (5), 5: 7 and 6: 4 break to reach the last sixteen of the last ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Paris-Bercy.

Raonic and Thiem therefore opened Wednesday in Paris-Bercy, not a full three days after the final win of the Lower Austrian at the Erste Bank Open in the Wiener Stadthalle. It was the fourth match of the two, the youngest to date had Thiem in the semi-final of Indian Wells just decided for themselves. Thiem served on the fast surface of Paris-Bercy serve, also completed his first two service games sovereign. At 2: 2 and 3: 3 allowed the world ranking fifth-Raonic, however, a total of five break opportunities - only to defend then confidently (and in part with terrific net play). On its own, on the other hand, the Canadians usually remained humorless. Anyway, Thiem had to fight for his move into the tiebreak harder than his opponent.

In the short decision Thiem got five points in a row after 1: 3-residue. And secured the lead with the third set ball.

The second act was not unlike the first, but now also Thiem found his chances as a setback. For example, at the level of 4: 4, when the 26-year-old Lichtenwörther could not use two options for the preliminary decision. Raonic made it better now - and secured with a backhand volley after just under two hours of play the equalizer.

In the decision made Raonic the fresher impression, no wonder after the hardships that Thiem had experienced last week in Vienna. Nevertheless, it was the five-time tournament winner in 2019, who knew how to use his fourth break chance at the score of 4: 4. To make sure afterwards.

In the round of 16, either Grigor Dimitrov or David Goffin is waiting. The Bulgarian and the Belgian contest the third match at 11am on Court 1.
