The success of Dominic Thiem is over for the time being. The 26-year-old Austrian, who won last week in the Vienna Stadthalle and on Wednesday in Paris-Bercy against Milos Raonic, lost to Grigor Dimitrov 3-6 and 2-6.

Dimitrov started the match as a server - and did not miss a single point in his first three service games. Thiem, on the other hand, was already in trouble at the score of 1: 2 and immediately lost his serve with the first break chance. Thiem managed to put Dimitrov in danger for the first time in the seventh game, but the Bulgarian countered convincingly. To bring the first round to a dry end after half an hour of playtime.

Thiem, Melzer, Oswald out

Almost the same picture in the second act. However, since Thiem could initially fend off four breakballs before Dimitrov but the service of the Vienna winner to 2: 1 brought. The decision then brought the second break to 4: 1 - Dominic Thiem was there to clearly note the exhaustion. Grigor Dimitrov served after a playing time of 72 minutes to the match win.

He would not have played that bad, Thiem said after the match. But at unfavorable times made a few simple mistakes. Now he will take a break - and try to reach the semi-finals for the first time at the ATP Finals in London.

In the quarterfinals Dimitrov is now waiting for Cristian Garin. The Chilean defeated by three match balls Jeremy Chardy in the tiebreak of the third set.

From an Austrian point of view, the Thursday was not completely satisfactory: with Jürgen Melzer and Philipp Oswald lost namely the last two remaining in the tableau red-white-red representatives.
