Hüsler won 6: 2, 6: 3 against the Italian on Monday afternoon, who can thus bury his hopes of a place as a substitute at the ATP Finals in Turin.

The match at the indoor tournament in the French capital lasted just over an hour. Sinner returned to the tour in Vienna last week after being sidelined with an ankle injury. In Vienna he lost to eventual winner Daniil Medvedev in the quarterfinals.

Hüsler, however, confirmed his strong late summer - he had won his first ATP tournament in Sofia in September, before that he had been in the semifinals in Winston-Salem. Most recently, it suffered three defeats at the start - in Basel, however, only in three hard-fought rounds against eventual winner Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Fritz continues to hope for Turin

Taylor Fritz had previously maintained his chances of a place in Turin.

The American beat Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 7-5, 6-2 and now meets the winner of the game between Andy Murray and Gilles Simon, who play in the evening.

However, Fritz needs at least one final in Paris to qualify for the ATP Finals.
