Djokovic and Schwartzman have played against each other four times so far, so far the world number one from Serbia has gone off the court as the winner at every opportunity. Djokovic is about his sixth title in Rome, his 36th in the Masters 1000 category. Schwartzman has his first final at this level.
In the semifinals Djokovic beat Casper Ruud in two sets, Schwartzman went the full distance against Denis Shapovalov and won in the tie-break of the third set.
