Stefanos Tsitsipas showed strong nerves against Matteo Berrettini

Matteo Berrettini got his home game on Thursday. The Grandstand in the Foro Italico in Rome was filled to the capacity limit of 25 percent, with the exception of the Tsitsipas family and the referees and line judges, all those present were likely to have been in the position of the native Roman Berrettini. Alone: Stefanos Tsitsipas was not in the mood for an Italian party. The Monte Carlo champion confirmed his strong form of the last few weeks and won 7: 6 (3) and 6: 2.

In the first set, Tsitsipas, who was placed fifth, was only able to win two points when Berrettini served. But got the tiebreak after a 1: 3 deficit. And in the second act he also pulled other strings as a kickback. An early and a late break enabled Tsitsipas to advance to the quarter-finals, where he will meet the defending champion in Rome, Novak Djokovic, on Friday.

Opelka beats Karatsev

The industry leader stayed with Alejandro Davidovich Fokina for only 70 minutes and won the first game on the Campo Centrale with 6: 2 and 6: 1. Djokovic won the final against Diego Schwartzman in Rome last autumn.

The American Reilly Opelka is also among the last eight. The service giant won against Aslan Karatsev 7: 6 (6) and 6: 4. Opelka plays either against Federico Delbonis or Félix Auger-Aliassime.
