However, the first sentence could have turned out differently. It was Reilly Opelka who found the first chances as a setback, the American earned a 0:40 early on Medvedev's serve. However, the service giant could not use any of these break chances - a circumstance that gave Medvedev a boost.

As a result, he came into the game better and better, and shortly afterwards knocked at Service Opelka for the first time. And, unlike his American counterpart, also made the break. The second in the world rankings couldn't be denied that in the first round, the Russian even had a chance to add another break and finally secured the first set 6: 4.

Fourth Masters title for Medvedev

The decision in the second round should be made early. Medvedev had his first break chance in the first game of the set, but Opelka was able to thwart it. Not so in the third game of the set, when the world number two secured the break advantage. Opelka still had one in the quiver, but Medvedev was able to thwart the 23-year-old's only break chance in set two.

So it was another break by the Russian, which sealed the clear 6-4 and 6-3 success of the 25-year-old after just one and a half hours. For Medvedev it is already the fourth ATP Masters 1000 triumph in his career, in the calendar year 2021 the Russian has already won three titles.
