After his strong performance against Stefanos Tsitsipas at the US Open, Andy Murray is still in strong form on the ATP tour. The Scot, who was defeated by Roman Safiulin in the second round of the Challenger event in Rennes last week, qualified for the quarter-finals of the ATP 250 tournament in Metz on Wednesday evening.

The former world number one defeated Vasek Pospisil 6: 3 and 6.3. In the second set, Murray caught up 1: 3 deficit, with five game wins in a row, the 34-year-old made everything clear. In the round of the last eight he could face the top seeded Hubert Hurkacz. To do this, the Pole would have to win against Lucas Pouille on Thursday.

While Murray was victorious at Court Central, Holger Rune delivered another talent test on Court 1. The 18-year-old defeated the world number 24. Lorenzo Sonego with 6.7 (6), 6: 4 and 6: 4 through. The Norwegian will now face Pablo Carreno Busta or Mikael Ymer, who are in second place.

Earlier on Wednesday there was also a sense of achievement from a German point of view: Peter Gojowczyk beat Antoine Hoang in round one in three sets
