ATP Metz: Peter Gojowczyk after beating Khachanov in the quarterfinals
Peter Gojowczyk preserved his top form at the US Open and reached the quarter-finals at the ATP tournament in Metz, France. There he also won his only ATP tournament to date in 2017.

On Thursday, the 32-year-old from Munich defeated the Olympic silver medalist Karen Khachanov from Russia 6: 3, 7: 6 (2) and made it into the top eight for the third time this year. In 2017, Gojowczyk won his only ATP-level title to date in Metz.
In the quarter-finals, Gojowczyk, who had fought his way into the peloton through qualification, will face fourth-placed Australian Alex De Minaur or Marcos Giron (USA). At the US Open in New York he last made it to the round of 16 and thus his best result in a Grand Slam tournament to date.
On Thursday evening Philipp Kohlschreiber (Augsburg) has the chance to follow Gojowczyk into the quarter-finals in Metz. The 37-year-old is up against former top 10 player Gael Monfils (France).
