Peter Gojowczyk builds on his strong form from the US Open at the ATP World Tour 250 tournament in Metz, France. The 32-year-old from Munich, who had advanced into the main draw through qualifying, beat Frenchman Antoine Hoang 6: 2, 3: 6, 6: 4 in the first round. Gojowczyk, who celebrated his best result so far in a Grand Slam tournament by reaching the last 16 in New York, had already defeated Hoang in the qualification.
The Frenchman was allowed to take part in the first round as a lucky loser. He gritted his teeth again at the tournament winner of 2017, who will now meet the Russian Olympic silver medalist Karen Khachanov - number seven in the indoor hard court tournament.
