This was a really exciting match that remained extremely open until the last second. But the young Czech was ultimately able to prevail with 5:7, 7:5 and 7:6 (7:5). First, Murray scored the decisive break in the first set, and Tomas Machac achieved this in the second set. In the decisive third set, the Scot left no stone unturned, ran back and forth, played a stop here and there, but didn't take the chance to break in the decisive moments. It looked as if the game would come to a quick end in the third set. But Murray had other plans. The 36-year-old made an amazing comeback, fended off Machac's first match point after a long rally and played his way into the tiebreak.

The game was now completely even and the final result was completely open. In the end, the Scot was two points short and Machac can move on to the next round after an excellent serve from both players. Sir Andy Murray said goodbye to the Miami Open to a standing ovation. The Grand Slam winner showed once again today: He is far from finished and is playing as beautiful tennis as ever. Next, the 23-year-old Czech will face the Italian Matteo Arnaldi, who won in two close sets against Denis Shapovalov.
