Arthur Fils watched the Italian duel between Jannik Sinner and Lorenzo Sonego in the second quarterfinals of the ATP Tour 250 tournament in Montpellier from the front row. No wonder: After all, the opponent was determined in the first semi-final for the 18-year-old Fils on the ATP tour.
And the young Frenchman must have been quite impressed by Sinner: After a very strong performance, the South Tyrolean won 6: 4 and 6: 2. Which is all the more amazing as it was Sinner's first match in this tournament. After a bye in round one, he should have played against Marton Fucsovics in the round of 16, but the Hungarian had to withdraw.
Arthur Fils, on the other hand, got nothing for free in this tournament. Not even in the quarterfinals on Friday, which he won against compatriot Quentin Halys 7: 6 (3) and 6: 3.
In the upper half, the two semi-finalists will be determined in the games between tournament favorite Holger Rune and Gregoire Barrere and between Borna Coric and Maxime Cressy.
