And there he flew, Alexander Zverev's bat. With three double mistakes, the 22-year-old gave his opponent Nikoloz Basilashvili the break to 5: 5 in the first set. This game symbolized the extremely weak level in the first section, both players were not able to reach their performance limit.

But Zverev somehow seemed to give strength to the destruction of their own gaming device. The German secured the next two games and thus the first round. The world ranking seventh, however, could not take this momentum into the second set.

Basilashvili quickly took the lead 2-0, but Zverev immediately struck back and reduced to 1: 2 in his view. After that, both players stabilized a bit before the German left four break balls unused at 4: 4 and thus missed the preliminary decision. That should take revenge - Basilashvili made the decisive break to 7: 5.

Zverev struggles through

In the third round, Zverev immediately took the Georgian serve to 1: 0. The match was still at a low level, but the German fought very well. However, one had to say the same about Basilashvili, who made the break to 4: 4 thanks to some mistakes from Zverev.

As in Hamburg, when Basilashvili prevailed in the tiebreak of the third set, the quick decision in Montreal had to decide whether to win or lose. In Canada, however, Zverev remained the cooler player - after 2:45 hours of play, the 22-year-old was the 7: 5, 5: 7 and 7: 6 (5) winner.

In total, the two actors produced over 100 uncommon errors on the Court Banque Nationale. Zverev will face Karen Khachanov in the quarter-finals. The Russian defeated local hero Felix Auger-Aliassime 6: 7 (7), 7: 5 and 6: 3.
