"I think I'm already someone who can say something like that. I've never used a toilet break or a medical timeout," said Zverev before starting at the ATP tournament in Munich (April 17th to 23rd) and emphasized : "I win and lose with tennis. I'm proud of it."

After his narrow 6: 3, 5: 7, 6: 7 (7) defeat in the round of 16 of the Masters in Monte Carlo on Thursday, Zverev accused the world number five from Russia of unsportsmanlike behavior. "He's one of the best tennis players in the world, but he doesn't win with tennis. He's one of the most unfair players we have in the world. He tries to do everything when he's behind. I'm extremely disappointed with that. I guess Fairness and sportsmanship very seriously. Unfortunately, he has none of that."

Zverev placed third in Munich

Medvedev did not let the allegations sit down. "Sascha lives in his own world and when he loses you find 25 interviews where he says strange things. If he says that someone is playing unfairly, he should take a look in the mirror," he said. Zverev now countered with the hint: "Sure, I break a racket sometimes, but I win and lose with tennis, I think people should make up their own minds, I can't say more about that."

In Munich, the two-time tournament winner Zverev (2017 and 2018) is seeded number three, after a bye in the first round he will not meet Christopher O'Connell from Australia or Ugo Humbert (France) until Wednesday in the round of 16 at the earliest. Zverev could meet number one seeded defending champion Holger Rune from Denmark in the semifinals. World number ten Taylor Fritz from the USA enters the tournament as number two.
