The early arrival in Munich has borne fruit for Félix Auger-Aliassime: The Canadian has been training at the MTTC Iphitos facility since Friday. And he had to stretch himself in his first match against Maximilian Marterer. In the end, however, he won 6:7 (5), 7:6 (6) and 7:6 (3).

Marterer could have sealed the deal in the second set, but served a double fault at 5:5 in the tiebreak. Auger-Aliassime also responded with a double, but managed to tie the set a few moments later. In the deciding match, Marterer managed to break to 4:2, but was unable to serve out at 5:3.

In the following game, Marterer thought he had his first match point. But referee Fergus Murphy saw Auger-Aliassime's stop just on the line. Marterer didn't let that bother him, fended off a break point at 5:5 and took the lead again. More than three hours had already been played in difficult conditions.

After 3 hours and 14 minutes, it was finally match point for Marterer - Auger-Aliassime defended with an inside-out forehand shot. And so it went into a tiebreak for the third time. And the Canadian favorite won it 7:3.
