ATP Munich: Dominic Thiem - Chronicle of what feels like a home game week
Dominic Thiem can be satisfied with the last few days despite being eliminated in the quarter-finals of the ATP Tour 250 tournament in Munich against Taylor Fritz . Above all, he will have been happy about the support of the fans.

No doubt: Dominic Thiem would not have minded spending the weekend in Munich as well. And who knows, maybe Thiem will do another training session this Saturday, after all he will continue at a similar altitude next week in Madrid. The competitor Dominic Thiem has had its day after losing to Taylor Fritz in Munich.
Which is a pity: Because the audience adopted the Austrian as a local hero in the match against Marc-Andrea Huesler at the latest, a bit inevitably, because the German warriors all said goodbye on Thursday at the latest. The fans had to be patient for seven years, since his final defeat against Philipp Kohlschreiber in 2016, Thiem has not headed for the MTTC Iphitos for various reasons. The experiences of this tournament week will hopefully help to ensure that there is no longer such a long break.
- Thiem has already used the weekend before the start of the tournament, including Friday, to familiarize himself with the conditions. And to become the undisputed selfie leader at the BMW Open 2023. The 2020 US Open champion basically extended the lead that was already secure on Sunday evening after every training session.
- The first emotional peak followed on Monday. And that doesn't mean the appearance with girlfriend Lili on the red carpet at the Players Party. No, Matthias Bachinger had to say goodbye, Dominic Thiem was happy to be his doubles partner (although the two would have liked to have won the doubles against Oswald/Haase).

- Then on Tuesday a solid set against Constant Lestienne before the Frenchman had to retire. We went straight to the training court, the fire obviously burns not only with Dominic Thiem, but also with neo-coach Benjamin Ebrahimzadeh.
- There wasn't much sporting activity on Wednesday, luckily Manchester City (not Thiem's favorite club, as you know) gave a guest performance in Munich's Allianz Arena. Alexander Zverev and Jan-Lennard Struff also pursued this better kind of distraction.
- Thursday could have ended in a sporting disappointment, the darkness prevented this against Marc-Andrea Huesler at a score of 5: 7 and 3: 3 from Thiem's point of view.
- After the onset and outbreak of spring on Friday, the Swiss then had no assignment against Thiem, who, however, had to pay tribute to his immense workload against Taylor Fritz.
So that's pretty much how round eight days in Munich come to an end for Dominic Thiem. A return to the top 100 is guaranteed, perhaps even more would have been possible if the weather had been more favourable. May he try again here next year.
