Jan-Lennard Struff surprisingly failed in the first round at the ATP tournament in Munich. The 32-year-old Warsteiner, who was convincing at the Masters in Monte Carlo last week, lost to the Swiss qualifier Alexander Ritschard, who is ranked 209th in the world, in exactly two hours 5:7, 5:7.

On the other hand, Oscar Otte won his opening match on the MTTC Iphitos facility with a convincing performance. The 29-year-old from Cologne defeated number five seeded clay court specialist Sebastian Baez (Argentina) 6:3, 7:5 and is the third German alongside Yannick Hanfmann (Karlsruhe) and Alexander Zverev (Hamburg) in the round of 16.

Zverev versus O'Connell

Zverev, seeded number three, will enter the tournament, which is endowed with 630,705 euros, against Christopher O'Connell (Australia) on Wednesday. O'Connell is currently number 82 in the world rankings. Zverev could then meet Otte in the quarterfinals. Last year's semi-finalist succeeded against the world number 30. Baez only his fourth win this year.

Max Hans Rehberg, on the other hand, missed a big surprise in only his third match on the tour. The 19-year-old from Munich, only number 412 in the world rankings, lost to Hungary's Marton Fucsovics, who was in 75th place, 6: 4, 6: 7 (6: 8), 3: 6. Rehberg missed a 4-1 lead in the second set and two match points in the tie-break.
