The all-German duel between Philipp Kohlschreiber and Dominik Koepfer is certainly the focus of interest. The prerequisites could hardly be more different. “Kohli” is taking part in his “living room” in Munich for the 16th time, Dominik Koepfer is playing at the BMW Open for the first time. Kohlschreiber, on the other hand, has already won the tournament at the MTTC Iphitos three times, making him the record winner in Munich.

Jan-Lennard Struff and Yannick Hanfmann also have to deal with it. "Struffi" plays against Andrej Martin from Slovakia, who slipped into the main draw as a lucky loser. In 2014 Jan-Lennard Struff made it to the semi-finals of the BMW Open and the 31-year-old would love to repeat this result. Yannick Hanfmann plays against Taro Daniel from Japan. Daniel was able to surprise last week in Belgrade with a strong performance, made it to the semi-finals at Novak Djokovic's home tournament, where he was defeated by Matteo Berrettini.

Zverev against Berankis

The local heroes Maximilian Marterer and Cedric-Marcel Stebe have already retired. The latter played in the last game on Monday against Federico Coria from Argentina. After losing the first set, Stebe fought his way back and won the second round. In the third set he quickly fell behind and didn't have much to counter the Argentine's variable game. After a good two hours of play, Federico Coria was able to look forward to making it into the round of 16 (6: 3, 3: 6, 6: 2).

Before that, Maximilian Marterer was on the way to deliver a really good match against Ricardas Berankis from Lithuania. Born 4: 1, the Nuremberg native led in the first set, only to lose it in the tie-break: “There was definitely more in this set because I had the feeling that I was the better player. But unfortunately in the crucial moments I was lacking a bit of luck, ”said Marterer, somewhat contrite after the game. The second set was then lost with 2: 6 and with it the chance to play against the number one of the tournament, Alexander Zverev, in the next round.
