Head referee Norbert Peick has a direct line to the top in Munich year after year. Or at least a working weather app on his mobile phone. And so, according to reports, Peick has arranged for a drying window of about two hours later in the afternoon for the final Sunday in Munich. The original start date for the final between Jan-Lennard Struff and Nikoloz Basilashvili at 1:30 p.m. is definitely shaky. Especially since the rain started as announced in the Bavarian capital on Saturday evening. And on the morning after, too, made no move to simply move on for a few kilometers.

Struff and his final opponent from Georgia will be a little annoyed by this, but since both players are not among the big favorites for the upcoming tournament in Madrid, postponing the final to Monday would not be a big drama. In 2015, the Munich team had to extend the traditional tournament at the MTTC Iphitos by one day. And were rewarded with an epic final between Andy Murray and Philipp Kohlschreiber.

Murray took the momentum from Munich with him to the Caja Magica in Madrid - and six days after winning the BMW Open title, he also won the title in the Spanish capital. For Struff and Basilashvili, the Madrid draw brought two exciting options in each round: The German starts against a qualifier and could then meet Jannik Sinner . And Basilashvili has to deal with play-weary Benoit Paire - before it goes against Stefanos Tsitsipas.
