Awards that come from colleagues are often worth more than those given by fans or journalists. And so Rafael Nadal should be particularly happy that he was voted the fairest player of the year by the players of the ATP Tour for the second time in a row and was awarded the “Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award”. Dominic Thiem , Diego Schwartzman and record winner Roger Federer were also nominated in this category .

There could be no great doubts about the best returnees of the past season, this title of course went to Andy Murray. The Scot had let his colleagues say goodbye to him at the Australian Open after his loss to Roberto Bautista Agut, and Murray made his comeback at the ATP Tour 500 tournament at Queen's Club in London. Where he won the double with Feliciano Lopez.

Thiem coach Massu goes empty-handed

The ATP players chose the now 18-year-old Italian Jannik Sinner as newcomer of the year. The South Tyrolean crowned his season with the title at the #NextGen finals in Milan, then went even further with winning the challengers in Ortisei. Sinner hibernates in the world rankings as number 78.

Gilles Cervara finally won the Coach of the Year award. The Spaniard led Daniil Medvedev into the top ten, on the way there the Russian won the two ATP Masters 1000 events in Cincinnati and Shanghai, and was also at the US Open in the final. Nicolas Massu, Dominic Thiem's advisor, went away empty-handed.
