It has already become apparent over the course of this season that Francisco Cerundolo or Maxime Cressy would be able to win an ATP tournament sooner or later. Cerundolo made it to the semifinals in Miami (and that on the hard court he didn't prefer), and also showed great tennis in Wimbledon against Rafael Nadal. In his only final until Bastad, the Argentine had no chance against Diego Schwartzman in Buenos Aires 2021.
Cressy, on the other hand, has already reached the finals this year in Melbourne (lost to Nadal) and in Eastbourne, where he lost to Taylor Fritz. And now in Newport for the first time written down as a tournament winner. Which brings the number of debutants to a total of nine.
Rune wins in Munich
As for now: First of all, Thanasi Kokkinakis, who secured the tournament victory in Adelaide II. Then Alexander Bublik with his triumph in Montpellier, beating Alexander Zverev in the final. The most prominent newcomer to the list of winners on the ATP tour is probably Félix Auger-Aliassime, who struck in Rotterdam.
Pedro Martinez celebrated his premiere in Santiago de Chile, Sebastian Baez in Estoril. By the way, in the same week that Holger Rune won the title in Munich. The biggest surprise of all remains Tim van Rijthoven with his win in 's-Hertogenbosch.
