Now Andy Murray is really challenged at the Queen's Club in London

Benoit Paire is an excellent player. But on a day when he doesn't really feel like it, there is certainly no yardstick for a two-time Wimbledon champion like Andy Murray. Accordingly, the Scot made short work of the fickle beard from Avignon in round one of the ATP World Tour 500 tournament at the Queen's Club in London. 6: 3, 6: 2 could be read on the scoreboard after just 1:05 hours of play.

In the second round, i.e. the round of 16, the task for the British is much more difficult, as Matteo Berrettini, who was number one in this year's edition of the turf classic, is waiting there. The quarter-finalist at the recently concluded French Open obviously struggled more than the Scot with 7: 6 (5), 7: 6 (4) in his opening match against his compatriot Stefano Travaglia, but with his hard basic strokes he is in any case a real touchstone for the three-time Grand Slam champion.

Shapovalov versus defending champion Lopez

In head-to-head, Murray leads 1-0 against the southern European, who is nine years younger. In 2019, the Englishman by choice prevailed at the ATP hard court event in Beijing with 7: 6 (2), 7: 6 (7). Should Murray actually succeed in the surprise, he would be on the current world rankings-124. either his compatriot Daniel Evans or the French Adrian Mannarino are waiting. These will open the players' game on Center Court today at 12:00 (CEST). Murray and Berrettini follow.

The second-placed Denis Shapovalov's round of 16 game is also not uninteresting. The Canadian is up against the Spaniard Feliciano Lopez - two-time singles champion at the Queen's Club in London. Most recently, the man from Toledo won the title in 2019. Since the renowned 2020 lawn tournament had to be canceled, Lopez is defending champion.
