For Stan Wawrinka, immediately after the strong marathon triumph over Frances Tiafoe, it put the next damper on his way back to the top of the world. The Swiss player was beaten in two sets at London's Queen's Club Tommy Paul on Thursday. The American won his ticket for the round of eight with 6: 1 and 6: 4 - and should therefore most likely be among the seeded players in Wimbledon.
Meanwhile, Matteo Berrettini's run of success continues, who, after an injury break of almost three months, recently reported back strongly by winning the tournament at the Boss Open in Stuttgart. However, the Roman needed a lot of willpower on Thursday, in the meantime he was behind Denis Kudla with a set and breakball, but he finally managed the turnaround.
In the end, Berrettini kept his nerve in a tie-break in the second set with 7: 5, in round three the Wimbledon finalist from the previous year managed the decisive break with a score of 4: 4. Berrettini now faces Tommy Paul in the last eight. Marin Cilic (against Emil Ruusuvuori) and Botic van de Zandschulp (against Alejandro Davidovich-Fokina) have also been confirmed as quarter-finalists.
