Two weeks at the beginning of March, Daniil Medvedev was already number one in the ATP ranking, now the Russian is once again taking the top position in men's tennis. The previous world number one, Novak Djokovic, lost the points from last year's French Open triumph this Monday. He currently has to be satisfied with third place in the rankings, because German number one Alexander Zverev overtook the southern Slav and is now in second place - the Hamburg-based career best so far and all that despite the serious ankle injury sustained in Paris.
Rafael Nadal also had to give up a thousand ATP points for the reasons mentioned above, but remains stable in fourth place. Stefanos Tsitsipas, the Roland Garros finalist in 2021, would have wanted the same thing. However, the Greek loses a position and also gives 23-year-old Casper Ruud his best career result with fifth place. Medvedev leads with 875 points in front of Zverev and a total of 1180 scoring units in front of the previous long-term industry leader.
Otte just before the top 50, Novak again Austria's number one
A little further down Andy Murray, after reaching the final in Stuttgart with position 47, is happy about re-entering the top 50 tennis professionals after almost exactly four years.
From a German point of view, Oscar Otte in particular knows how to inspire, the 28-year-old has improved by ten places to 51st place by participating in the semifinals in Stuttgart and is now scratching the top 50. Dominik Koepfer, on the other hand, falls out of the top 100 and is currently wearing clothes only position 103. Jan-Lennard Struff held this rank last week, before the Warsteiner lost 46 places this week (ATP 149) and is therefore only a hair's breadth in the top 150.
Dennis Novak (ATP 147) has regained the number one position in Austrian tennis after Jurij Rodionov fell 25 places to rank 154. The 23-year-old from Lower Austria reached the semi-finals in Stuttgart last year and failed in round one of this year's edition.
