ATP Rankings: Djokovic hibernates in fifth place, Thiem continues to slide

Novak Djokovic has worked his way up three places in the ATP world rankings with his success at the ATP Finals in Turin. Dominic Thiem, on the other hand, has to worry about his direct qualification for the Australian Open.

Félix Auger-Aliassime, Andrey Rublev and Daniil Medvedev can certainly live with that. With the fact that Novak Djokovic will end 2022 in fifth place on the ATP charts. With a certain respect distance to fourth-placed Stefanos Tsitsipas. If all the top players were to start at the Australian Open, this would probably mean that Rublev, Medvedev and Auger-Aliassime would only meet record champion Djokovic in the semifinals.

The ranking is led by Carlos Alcaraz ahead of Rafael Nadal and Casper Ruud. Holger Rune, the champion of Paris-Bercy, slipped out of the top ten in the last print. The Dane is now in eleventh place, just ahead of Alexander Zverev.

Thiem loses four places

It doesn't look quite as good for Dominic Thiem, who has lost four places and is currently ranked 106th. Young American Ben Shelton has overtaken Thiem, as has veteran Vasek Pospisil, Thomas Machac and Facundo Bagnis. In order to have a secure place in the main field of the Australian Open, Thiem would have to be in 104th place at the end of the entry period.

Unless the first Grand Slam tournament of the year grants the 2020 finalist a wildcard. Or the ATP grants Thiem a ninth protected ranking, which he lost due to a calculation error.
