Whether second or third in the ATP world rankings, that could play a major role for Rafael Nadal in his attack on the 14th title in Roland Garros. Because if the record champion starts the race in third place, he could face a semi-final with Novak Djokovic in the event of an unfortunate draw. Not that Nadal doesn't have a positive record against Djokovic in Paris. But the way to the endgame would certainly be easier from the lower half of the tableau.

So it's good for Nadal that, with his success at the ATP Tour 500 tournament in Barcelona, he climbed back to second position in the ATP charts. Medvedev follows in third place ahead of Dominic Thiem and Stefanos Tsitsipas .

Thiem far behind in the annual ranking

Jannik Sinner (new career high at 18) and Belgrade finalist Aslan Karatsev (now number 27) have also improved by one place.

In the annual standings, the Race to Turin, Stefanos Tsitsipas extended his lead ahead of Andrey Rublev and Novak Djokovic. Behind them are Daniil Medvedev, Aslan Karatsev, Miami Champion Hubert Hurkacz and Jannik Sinner. New in the top eight is Rafael Nadal, who with his 500 points from Barcelona made a leap of ten places and pushed Alexander Zverev down one position. Dominic Thiem, who will only return to tour operations in Madrid next week, is in 52nd place in the race.
