In addition to the drudgery in the rehabilitation clinic, Roger Federer also needs time for distraction from time to time. Especially since, as recently reported, the progress in physical structure after last year's knee surgery should be obvious to observers. The Swiss would like to be "fully operational" again in the summer and return to the ATP tour at his home tournament in Basel in October at the latest.

To clear his head, the 20-time Grand Slam champion paid a visit to the Formula 1 entourage in Barcelona this weekend - to be more precise, the Mercedes racing team. The men around motorsport boss Toto Wolff were visibly happy about the prominent attendance, the drivers Lewis Hamilton and George Russell promptly had their picture taken with the tennis "maestro".

"We're happy to have you with us in qualifying," the team wrote on Twitter. It remains to be hoped for Mercedes that the visit of the Swiss will lead to an increase in performance. Russell and Hamilton are currently in fourth and sixth place in the world championship table - with a significant gap in points to the leading Monegasque Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc.
