The world number one Novak Djokovic won the first game after his scandal at the US Open at the ATP clay court tournament in Rome. The top seeded Serb, who was disqualified in the second round of the Grand Slam in New York, prevailed 6: 3, 6: 2 after an opening bye in round two against the Italian Salvatore Caruso. After turbulent days, Djokovic lived up to his role as a favorite at the French Open dress rehearsal. At Flushing Meadows he was kicked out of the tournament after hitting a line judge in the neck with a ball that had been knocked away.

He will not forget the situation, said Djokovic in Rome. He was shocked by the incident for a few days: "Time heals wounds, and I have to understand it as a great lesson."
