Jiri Lehecka's victory against Denis Shapovalov in round one of the ATP Tour 500 tournament in Rotterdam was not a flash in the pan. The 20-year-old Czech followed up with the next surprise in the round of 16 against local hero Botic van de Zandschulp and, after a slow start, won 1:6, 6:4 and 6:4. The youngster's nerves of steel are particularly noteworthy: van de Zandschulp managed the re-break in the third set to make it 4:4 - but Lehecka immediately hit back. And served to the greatest success of his career.

Lorenzo Musetti , a contemporary of the Czech, is now waiting in the quarter-finals. Musetti also beat a renowned player on his way to the last eight, namely Hubert Hurkacz, number four in the traditional 500ers in the Netherlands.

Also in the quarterfinals are Alex de Minaur, who will play against either Stefanos Tsitsipas or Olya Ivashka, and Cameron Norrie, who is waiting for the winner of the match between Andy Murray and Félix Auger-Aliassime.
