ATP Shanghai: Daniil Medvedev stops Fabio Fognini
Daniil Medvedev was the first player to reach the semi-finals of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Shanghai. The Russian defeated Fabio Fognini 6: 3 and 7: 6 (4).

The bandage that Fabio Fognini had put on the left thigh by the physiotherapist at the beginning of the second set of his quarterfinals against Daniil Medvedev did not last long. Strictly speaking: not a single point. The Italian got rid of the medical support immediately after entering the square, to the astonishment of the medical staff. The Italian continued to play bravely - but had to defeat US Open finalist Daniil Medvedev 3: 6 and 6: 7 (4). Medvedev is now in the preliminary round. And could reach the final of an ATP tournament for the sixth time in a row: to Washington, Montreál, Cincinnati, New York City and St. Petersburg.
Novak Djokovic could be in the way. The world number one plays in the second semi-final against Stefanos Tsitsipas. Medvedev and Djokovic recently faced each other in Cincinnati. The Russian had the upper hand there. For Fognini, the defeat means a setback in the battle for places in the ATP final in London. For Medvedev, it was the twelfth success in the twelfth quarter-final 2019.
