The trip to Shanghai was not particularly fruitful for Holger Rune. In his opening match against Brandon Nakashima, the third-seeded Dane lost 0:6, 2:6. The match against the current 122 in the ATP ranking only lasted 68 minutes. The disastrously high number of his own mistakes never gave Rune a chance for a positive outcome, and he even hit one winner more than his opponent.
Another setback for Holger Rune after last week and the separation from his coach Patrick Mouratoglou. After his first-round defeat at the US Open against Roberto Carballes Baena, the 20-year-old Dane ended his collaboration with the star coach and returned to his long-time youth coach. Opponent Nakashima will face the winner of the game between Thomas Martin Etcheverry and Zhizhen Zhang in the next round.
De Minaur, Musetti and Auger-Aliassime are also eliminated
On the third day in Shanghai, a few more seeded players suffered an early exit. Alex de Minaur, seeded eleventh, lost in two sets 3:6, 5:7 against the Hungarian Fabian Maroszan. The surprise of Lorenzo Musetti's defeat was even greater. Ranked 17th in the draw, the Italian lost to the Taiwanese Yo Hsiou Hsu, currently 184th in the world rankings, 3:6, 4:6.
Felix Auger-Aliassime suffered another bitter defeat after the less successful last few months. The 15th in the ATP ranking lost to Marton Fucsovics 6:7(3), 6:4, 3:6 after 3:22 hours. For the Canadian it was the 17th defeat in the 32nd tour match this year.
