Can Aslan Karatsev defend his semi-finals from the Australian Open 2021 from Monday? Who knows. However, this cannot be ruled out. Especially not with a view to the performance that the Russian delivered in the final of the ATP Tour 250 event in Sydney. Karatsev defeated Andy Murray 6-3 and 6-3 to claim the third title after Dubai and Moscow last year.

The audience in the Ken Rosewall Arena was again mostly in Murray's camp, the protégé of German coach Jan de Witt fought for every ball as usual. Karatsev, however, dictated most of the rallies, especially with his forehand. The fifth game in the second set could have been the turning point, as Murray was unable to use several breakballs.

Karatsev utilizes third match point

After 1:28 hours, Karatsev earned his first two match points, the first he messed up himself with a double fault, the second Murray scored with a backhand shot. The number one of the tournament could not be taken away from the third possibility.

At the Australian Open, Aslan Karatsev meets Jaume Munar in round one, Andy Murray starts against Nikoloz Basilashvili. He had already dealt with the Georgian in the second round in Sydney.
