Around 90 minutes - that is the time Novak Djokovic has played in his previous appearances at the ATP Tour 500 tournament in Tokyo. First against Alexei Popyrin, whom the industry leader gave no chance. Also in round two against Go Soeda, Djokovic struggled for over 90 minutes before leaving the court after a 6: 3 and 7: 5 victory. In contrast to the start against the Australian qualifier, the Serb allowed breakballs this time and even had to give up his serve once. Of course, doubts about the favorite's victory never came up.

In the quarterfinals on Friday, Novak Djokovic will face either Lucas Pouille or the next Japanese, Yoshihito Nishioka.

Alex de Minaur has already retired. The young Australian had won the tournament in Zhuhai last weekend, in Tokyo the round one was already over: de Minaur lost to South African Lloyd Harris 3: 6, 7: 6 (6) and 6: 7 (8). And the winner of Chengdu is no longer represented in the Tokyo tableau: Pablo Carreno Busta lost 6: 1, 6: 7 (8) and 0: 6 to David Goffin. The Belgian fended off three match balls from his opponent.
