The first round was extremely even, neither of the two duos managed a break - a tie-break had to bring the decision. In this, Mate Pavic and Nikola Mektic, the currently outstanding duo from Croatia (nine titles in this game year have already been credited with this double), dominated the event on the Center Court in Canada - Pavic / Mektic made it 7: 3 to 1: 0 -Sentences.
In the second set, too, the two doubles were very little separated. The logical consequence: again a tie-break had to bring the decision. In this it initially looked as if the German-Romanian duo could force a decisive sentence. Krawietz and Tecau quickly moved away to 5: 1, but then had to give up four points en suite - 5: 5.
Crazy final spurt
At 6: 5, Krawietz / Tecau had a set ball that Mektic / Pavic thwarted. Just like the German at the Romanian's side with the score of 7: 6 destroyed a first match point. This lively to-and-fro continued. Long on. In total, Krawietz / Tecau dropped four match balls, and the leaders in the world rankings ultimately used their third match ball. For a whopping 14:12 success in the tiebreaker.
The final opponent will meanwhile be determined on Sunday night. Ram / Salisbury and Gille / Viegen will meet in the second semi-final.
