Carlos Alcaraz enters Barcelona as the defending champion

It's a good, old custom for the champion of the ATP Tour 500 tournament in Barcelona to jump into the club pool with the ball kids after the official celebrations. That won't be the only reason why the stars want to compete in the Catalan capital again this year. Of course, this is not good news for the tournaments in Munich and Banja Luka, which take place in the same week as Barcelona, namely from April 17th to 23rd.

But good: It goes without saying that the two Spanish local heroes will serve with record champion Rafael Nadal and defending champion Carlos Alcaraz. Now Daniil Medvedev has also given his commitment. The Russian is not a big fan of clay court tennis, but it doesn't help. Medvedev has to get match practice somewhere.

Rune in Barcelona instead of Munich?

Somewhat surprisingly, the name Holger Rune appears on the list of participants published by the Spanish newspaper Marca. Because Rune actually said very clearly that he would like to defend his title in Munich. The tournament also advertises the name of the Dane (and that of Alexander Zverev, who will definitely open in the Bavarian capital).

The matter is rounded off with two ash experts: Stefanos Tsitsipas and Casper Ruud. Tsitsipas started the year well, reaching the final at the Australian Open. Ruud, on the other hand, is still looking for form after a messed up preparation.
