How much would a Wimbledon win be worth without the associated 2,000 points for the ATP world rankings? Probably still a lot. At least that's what the champion says. It is clear why this question arises at all: After the exclusion of the Russian and Belarusian players from the classic lawn par excellence and also the preparatory tournaments taking place in Great Britain in London's Queen's Club and in Eastbourne, the ATP is considering not awarding any points for Wimbledon .

The Queen's Club and Eastbourne, on the other hand, regularly play for points for the world rankings. That became known on Monday. The reason for this is the opportunities that DaniilMedvedev, Andrey Rublev and Co. have left outside the UK. For example, the two best Russian players can and will serve in HalleWestfalen. In the last week before Wimbledon, Medvedev could defend his title in Mallorca, right after the French Open there is also the ATP Tour 250 event in Stuttgart.

Would Djokovic keep his 2,000 points?

But of course no player can collect points during the two weeks of the tournament in Wimbledon if he is not allowed to start in London, as the All England Lawn Tennis Club probably decided under pressure from politics. Whether it will actually come to that is uncertain. Also what effects such a decision has on the world rankings. Will the points from 2021 simply be removed? Or can Novak Djokovic continue to carry his 2,000 points, regardless of whether the industry leader defends his title in Wimbledon this year?

From a sporting point of view, the exclusion of the Russians and Belarusians from the men's side is perhaps a little less decisive for the tournament. Because neither Medvedev nor Rublev are among the narrower circle of favorites for the title. In the women's category, a reinvigorated Aryna Sabalenka could have had a say in winning the tournament.
