ATP Umag: Jannik Sinner beats Carlos Alcaraz and wins sixth career title!

The winner of the ATP 250 tournament in Umag is Jannik Sinner : The 20-year-old prevailed in the final against Carlos Alcaraz 6: 7 (5), 6: 1 and 6: 1 and thus won his first title in the current season Season. Overall, the Italian's triumph in the small Croatian town was his sixth tournament victory in his young career.

The final started extremely balanced, in the first round neither player got a breakball. Consequently, a tie-break had to make the decision: Alcaraz quickly took a 5-1 lead and, thanks to an outstanding passing ball, converted his second set ball to 7: 5 in the quick decision.

Sinner hits back in set two

Early in the second period, Alcaraz had the opportunity to finally turn onto the road to victory, but he missed six break points in the second game. Sinner did better a game later and took the serve from his opponent to make it 2-1. It was the start of a strong phase for the South Tyrolean, who bagged the second set 6-1.

Sinner took the momentum from the second period and broke Alcaraz in the decisive set to make it 3-1. Two games later, the 20-year-old followed up with another break to convert his first match point to a 6:7 (5), 6:1 and 6:1 win after two hours and 25 minutes of play.

Sinner, who had already beaten Alcaraz in the Wimbledon round of 16, made it 2-1 in the official head-to-head. Despite the final defeat, Alcaraz will be the new number four in the world rankings on Monday, Sinner remains in tenth place.
