Nick Kyrgios has celebrated his first tournament victory in three years. In the Washington DC final, the Wimbledon finalists defeated Japan's Yoshihito Nishioka 6-4, 6-3. The 27-year-old Australian had his last victory on the tour in 2019, also in the US capital.
"My motivation is much greater than it was. It's a small window, I should use it," said Kyrgios, who after his seventh tournament win in singles was followed by his fourth in doubles: the Australian Open champion defeated on the side by Jack Sock (USA) the French Open finalists Ivan Dodig/Austin Krajicek (Croatia/USA) 7: 5 and 6: 4.
Kyrgios now heads to Montreal where he meets Sebastian Baez in the first round. After that there would be a clash with Daniil Mevdedev. The world number one also won his first title of the year in Los Cabos on Saturday .
